Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 22, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how The Rooster (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles personal information when you use our mobile application, website at therooster.app, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to this policy.
1. Who we are
The Rooster is a tournament management platform that helps players and teams discover events, register, and track competition, and helps directors create and run tournaments—including registrations and payouts. The Service is currently focused on slow pitch softball, with additional sports planned.
Questions about privacy: [email protected].
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account data: email address, display name, password (if you sign up with email), and profile details you choose to add.
- Authentication: if you use Google or Apple Sign-In, we receive information those providers share with us (such as name and email) according to your provider settings.
- Tournament & team data: team names, rosters, registrations, division choices, and messages or content you submit in connection with events.
- Director & payout data: if you run events, we collect information needed to operate tournaments and, where applicable, to onboard you to Stripe Connect for payouts (see Section 4).
- Communications: support requests and optional marketing opt-in preferences.
Information collected automatically
- Device & app data: device type, operating system, app version, and similar technical identifiers needed to operate and secure the Service.
- Push notification tokens: if you enable notifications, we store a token so we can send tournament and account-related alerts.
- Usage data: basic logs about how you use features (e.g., errors, performance) to improve reliability.
- Location: only if you grant permission—for example, to show nearby tournaments or venue-related features. You can disable location in your device settings.
Payment information
Registration fees are processed by Stripe. We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers. Stripe collects and processes card data under its own privacy policy. We receive limited payment information from Stripe (such as payment status, amount, and identifiers needed to manage registrations and refunds).
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you;
- Operate tournaments, teams, brackets, schedules, and registrations;
- Process payments, refunds, and director payouts through Stripe;
- Send transactional messages (e.g., registration confirmations, password reset, event updates);
- Send push notifications you have allowed;
- Send optional marketing or product emails if you opt in (you may opt out at any time);
- Provide support and respond to inquiries;
- Improve, secure, and debug the Service; and
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
- Service providers who help us run the Service, including: Supabase (hosting, database, authentication, and file storage), Stripe (payments and Connect), Expo (app delivery and push infrastructure), and email providers (e.g., Resend) for transactional or opted-in marketing messages.
- Tournament directors and other participants as needed to run an event you join (for example, your name on a roster or registration list visible to the director and other teams, according to event settings).
- Other users when you choose to make profile or team information visible within the app.
- Legal and safety when required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and integrity of the Service.
- Business transfers in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality obligations.
5. Data retention
We keep information as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. You may request deletion of your account (see Section 7). Some data may remain in backups or logs for a limited period.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit and access controls through our infrastructure providers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent (e.g., marketing emails or push notifications);
- Port your data in a usable format, where applicable.
To exercise these rights, contact [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity. California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA; contact us for details.
You can control push notifications in your device settings and marketing preferences in the app or via unsubscribe links in emails.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
9. International users
We may process and store information in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be transferred to jurisdictions that may have different data protection laws than your home country.
10. Third-party links
The Service may link to third-party sites (for example, Stripe or app stores). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate.
